Books have been known to last decades, even centuries, with people still being able to read them. Are we confident that Microsoft Word docs or CDs will last as long?

Plain Text in digital form is about as low tech as you can get and still touch a computer. No special software is required to make sense of the content, though special software might be required to process it efficiently.
